Founded in 1992, the Hidden Valley Ski Team is an independent, not-for-profit organization that provides alpine ski race training and coaching to St. Louis metropolitan area youth, ages 5 to 19. We are self-funded thru membership fees and donations. We practice at Hidden Valley Ski Resort in Wildwood, Missouri and are thankful to the resort for provide use of thier facilities. HV is very supportive of the team!
Our purpose is to help each team member improve their skills, to learn how to enjoy the sport of alpine ski racing, and to translate that enjoyment and skill into a competitive environment. We focus on developing strong fundamental skiing skills, teaching the technical and psychological aspects of alpine racing, and providing a positive environment.
We also instill in our athletes how to build self confidence, self discipline, be part of a team, and how to practice good sportsmanship. We firmly believe these attributes of personal integrity, along with their experiences of skiing itself, will be instilled in these young people for their entire lives.
We pledge to provide a fun and safe environment in which each member can pursue and achieve their personal goals in this sport. We will do our best to support each athlete’s desire to achieve advanced levels of alpine racing through local training and opportunities to compete in regional and national events while maintaining prudent fiscal stewardship.
We value fun, team spirit, parental involvement, communication, good sportsmanship and mutual respect.
We rely on all three segments of our team (athletes, parents and coaches) to work together to make our team a rewarding experience for everyone.
The Success of Our Program:
The success of our program comes from our dedicated coaches. They have come to the sport either through racing themselves or through coaching their own children. Their love of coaching, racing and the environment of the Team has kept them involved. The program continues to be top rated to the standards of USSA whose goal is to produce Olympic athletes.
The success of our environment, comes from our parents. Our organization is parent led. Parents not only run the Team, but set the tone for our family environment. The program relies on parent volunteers in many capacities from small to large levels of involvement. All is appreciated.
If you are parent on skis, the more the parents can help with equipment, gates, slipping the race course etc…the more time we can spend coaching, and keeping your athlete running the course!
Parents are highly encouraged to come ski with us and your athlete if you would like, or you are welcome to free ski at will! (All coaches have radios and any of us will happily locate your child if you want…anytime.)
If you don't ski, parents are needed to help in the lodge, bring snacks to races and organize our family events.
